Located in the heart of Eastern India, Bhubaneshwar is an ancient city in the state of Odisha (formerly called Orissa). Many sandstones temples are built around the Bindu Sagar lake. It is a lively and green city with a rich cultural life. You will be staying at the International cultural center (KIAR) founded by Ashis Pahi. A simple yet welcoming home on several floors, comprising several art studio space, shared accomodation, a gallery and a roof top. Creativity will be at the heart of your residency while discovering the surrounding area with visits to places of interest. The ancient Chausath Yogini temple of Hirapur (20 kms from our residency) will be part of our art project (further details about the Yogini will be given upon registration). You will be free to explore your creativity through the medium of your choice, either painting and drawing, photography, installations, dancing or even writing. There will be no guidance in art practice, but feedback will be available as you move along your project when/if necessary. Group discussions will take place during the residency every 2 days, to share our experience and ask questions. Marianne will be offering also the following art module at an extra cost should you be interested in receiving more guidance in art practice: - ART: 3 x sessions of 2.5 hours of guided supervision in painting and drawing to encourage your creativity exploring techniques and composition (£120 extra). There will be time to reflect in some quiet locations and Marianne will offer topics to boost your inspiration and unfold the creativity within you. The inner journey will be an important aspect of the process. The residency will take a maximum of 6 people, hence it is important to express your interest early enough and book your place as soon as the final details will be announced (depending on the world health situations or any other situations that could interfere with our project). Arrival and departure at/from Bhubaneswar airport (via Delhi). You will be responsible for booking your flight from your home destination in order to arrive in Bhubaneswar on Saturday 5th November 2022. The cost of the flight is not included in the residency package. You will have to depart the day before as there will be a change over at Delhi airport. From experience it is wiser if you travel as a group, and prior arrangements to help you coordinate with other participants will be made, and if possible meeting face to face in London a few weeks before the trip so you get to know each other. If you are living elsewhere a zoom meeting with the group will also be arranged. Myself as the organiser I will not travel with you as I will be already in India at least a week in advance. Our host Ashis and myself will meet you at Bhubaneswar airport where your creative stay begins! India is the ideal place for developing an open mind towards the unexpected, learn to be responsive to the moment, discover a different culture where the manifold expressions of life manifest in front of your eyes. It is challenging yet enchanting, and you never forget India, as it leaves you with a lasting experience, and colourful memories. The residency center is a large family home and offers 3 twin rooms with ensuite bathroom and toilet. The beds can be made as double or two singles. It is basic, simple but clean and comfortable. There will be:

FOOD
The price of the tour does not include the cost of food, except for breakfast which will consist of omelette, bread, kitchari, salad and any other local food. The participants will be able to shop locally and cook what they want in the kitchen. As it will be a small group we can discuss if we want to create a rota for the cooking or leave it up to each participant to eat when they want. Whatever the arrangement we will ensure that each one is happy with it. You will also have the option to go and eat at the local restaurants when you fancy. There is no pre- determined routine, (except the site visits and group discussion every two days) as the idea is to leave enough freedom for each one to create and work on his / her project, at any time that feels right. |

For YOURSELF during your stay: During the residency it is better to dress with comfortable Indian style clothing. Apart from a pair of jeans, t-shirt and trainers that you may want to wear during your flight, you will find that you will be tempted to buy some of the pretty cotton tops, skirts or baggy trousers easily available in shops and markets at great prices. India is changing and is more open-minded with the new generation, however it is not a beach resort like Goa, it is therefore better to dress in a moderate way (in small villages for a woman to walk with tight shorts or a mini-skirt may be considered vulgar). Indian clothes are very colourful with some great design, so do not pack your suitcase with too many clothes. A more comprehensive list will be sent to you at the time of booking. For YOGA & MEDITATION: Yoga or meditation will be offered most days by Marianne, although it is not offered as a yoga retreat as such. It may help you to balance your body and mind and feel more creative. Yoga mat will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own if you wish. I would recommend that you bring a yoga block with you or a small cushion if you know that you need it in your practice. Suitable leggins or pants that allow freedom of movement are essential. The practice will be gentle but may involve some deep stretches at times. There will be more spiritual and meditation practices especially connected with the Tantric path of the Yoginis. For your CREATIVITY: You will need to consider in advance in which medium you would like to express yourself. You can bring some simple art materials with you, but there is also an art shop in the town where you can buy paper, acrylic paints and so on. It is suggested that you bring with you the following if you intend to draw / paint.
